OrlaSURF
Protein Surface Technology (OrlaSURF)
If your product or process requires immobilisation of a protein on a surface with maximum retention of protein function, then OrlaSURF technology is the right solution for you. OrlaSURF has proven advantages for the immobilisation of proteins for a range of applications. It can be used to display small motifs and larger proteins (e.g. binding domains, growth factors, enzymes, antigens). OrlaSURF technology can improve the functionality of immobilised protein compared to direct adsorption or chemical coupling – in former cases the function frequently improved by several orders of magnitude.
We offer a comprehensive service to fuse your protein of interest to the most appropriate partner from the OrlaSURF immobilisation toolkit. This is dependent upon the end use of the protein. In all cases we have a simple, modular workflow with validation and in-process quality checks.

In addition to our specific expertise in the engineering of proteins for surface immobilisation we have many years of experience in the design and production of proteins for other applications. We have created many ‘bespoke’ proteins for clients in a wide variety of application areas.
We can design and purify proteins for many applications. A few examples:

E. coli
E. coli Expression
We have many years of experience in the production of proteins in E. coli; whether as soluble proteins or refolding from inclusion bodies. Our service for production of his-tagged proteins in E. coli is highly competitive and cost effective. We have particular expertise in the production of membrane proteins as inclusion bodies and their subsequent refolding.
We also offer our proprietary TolA-tag expression system, with proven utility in the expression of proteins in the soluble fraction. The TolA-tag has been proved to be particularly useful in the expression of ‘problematic’ proteins that could not be expressed by other methods owing to toxicity to the host cell or other unknown factor.
A simple, modular workflow with validation at every stage ensures confidence in each step of the process. Our workflow is highly flexible and can be easily adapted to your requirements and needs. Although the cost is project-specific and dependent on complexity, we offer a highly competitive pricing structure.
We offer SDS PAGE, Western Blotting and Circular Dichroism analyses as standard. We can carry out many other types of project-specific analyses e.g. Biacore, ELISA, Mass Spec, activity assays etc.
