Orla’s new patent granted in UK
Orla Protein Technologies Ltd, a leader in the design, engineering and immobilisation of proteins for surface applications, has been granted U.K. patent No. GB2527623 to its novel protein engineering and immobilisation platform (OrlaSURF) for immobilisation of proteins to polymeric surfaces.
“This important piece of IP further strengthens our patent portfolio. We have built an exceptionally powerful platform for the efficient, simple and economic immobilisation of proteins on commonly used polymeric substrates. This comes at an exciting time when Orla is seeing increased uptake of its platform from companies seeking to harness the OrlaSURF platform to improve their products and processes.” said Dr Dale Athey, CEO of Orla Protein Technologies Ltd.
The new patent is an important addition to Orla’s intellectual property assets. It covers the assembly of the Orla scaffold on a range of polymeric substrates of the type commonly used across life sciences, such as plastic dishes, plates and particles.
Dr Deepan Shah, Head of Protein Engineering, commented: “Our engineered protein scaffold offers a versatile protein engineering with the unique advantage of simple, chemistry-free immobilisation to a range of polymeric substrates. This opens up a range of applications that require a simple way of putting protein content onto a plate, particle, membrane or flask.”
